"Anxious Night" -- a Gothic Rangers song

This is me and Robin Willhite:

"Anxious Night" -- on Soundcloud

Anxious Night

I've got one eye open and the other lid closed.
Sleep is fitful, paranoia grows.
Got a guilty conscience and a worried look,
a horseshoe pendant on my rabbit's foot.

So much is so unclear simply being here.

I've got deadbolt locks and a motion detector,
floodlights burning with mercury vapor.
Clock strikes midnight and I look around
for something suspicious inside and out.

So much unspoken fear simply being here.

Another anxious night in this old house on a gravel road.
An anxious night against the ditch bank's bristling shoulder.
An anxious night, sometimes you reap what you don't sow,
and I can't figure out why this dead wind won't blow.

Switch on a light, try to do a little reading.
I wonder what just might fit the mood of this evening.
Flip open a book by W.G. Sebald,
soon I'm falling through entropy's maw.

It is the folly of King Lear simply being here.

Wood siding's rotting, shingles are leaking,
foundation's settling, black mold creeping.
The bluebird radiance alighting on our days
is subject to the scythe of time and decay.

Everything slips out of gear simply being here.

Another anxious night in this old house on a gravel road.
An anxious night against the ditch bank's bristling shoulder.
An anxious night, sometimes you reap what you don't sow,
and I can't figure out why this dead wind won't blow.
